Day 19

Well, today started out with more sleeping in. (we just haven't been able to get out of the CA time zone!) We ventured out into Harvard Square and made sure to stop and get a Starbucks Mint Mocha Chip Frap. and two waters. It was in the high 80s with high humidity (sticky!)... and you just can't go around not armed with a cool drink, right? Well, that is how we wimpy non-humidity people roll.

The next phase of our day was a good one. We were able to surprise a friend, Heidi, Donna's old roommate in college. Boy did we surprise her... she didn't even know we were going on a road trip. Her face was priceless when we walked in unexpectedly (wish we had taken a picture of that). It just happened that she was able to hang out with us and join our adventures for the rest of the day! It worked out splendidly! (She also knew her way around a lot better than we did!) With Slurpees in hand, we were able to start bartering with scalpers (Corey did the bartering... he is good!) We thought we would try to snag some last minute Red Sox tickets, but that didn't work out too well. They were all sold out and the least expensive ticket was for standing room only at $60 a piece! So, we resolved to just take a picture of Corey in front of the park (finding out the score ended only 1-0, Donna is very glad we didn't go!).
Heidi led us to our next stop via the metro (the "T", as it is called here), the BAC, Boston Architecture College. (turns out it was only one stop away from the park and we could have walked!) It was nice to have a lighter day in terms of walking, though. Below Heidi and Donna pose before taking the "long" ride. (other than getting off our feet for a few minutes it was also nice to have air conditioning in the Metro... boy were we hot and sticky!)
After gathering information about the college and a little tour, we headed toward the some more architecturally pleasing buildings (of which Corey captured) and decided to see the largest Apple store in the nation. (no, the picture below is not of the Apple store, this is one of the big buildings that caught Corey's eye)
The Apple store was 3 stories with an awesome glass spiral stair case up the center of the store that led to the other levels.
One thing Heidi noted was that it is the biggest store, but still is offering and showing what any other Apple store shows... there were just multiples of EVERYTHING. We were all able to hop on the new Airs and check our email while also seeing that Feist is playing in places we are traveling to soon... (we will keep you posted on whether we go and see her again, she is AWESOME live!) Before we left the store, Donna had to take a big bite out of the Apple for herself. Hint taste of metal, but it was good.   : )
Heading back to Harvard Square, we had yummy Thai food. Corey decided that he needed his red curry dish *spicy* and boy was it. The only problem was that Donna was sharing this lovely-but-too-spicy-for-her dish! She felt the heat well up below her eyes and longed for more of the Tom Kha soup she enjoyed. Heidi invited us to join her and some friends for a movie night, featuring a Hitchcock film, Dial M for Murder. It was a great time with her friends and a great movie, we recommend it! (thanks Heidi and friends!!)
Well, time for bed to then be ready early for a decently long road trip for tomorrow. Switching gears from walking a lot back to driving a lot...

Hey y'all..... be glad you are on the East Coast, versus the West Coast, as the skies are filled with smoke from the HUNDREDS of fires blazing right now. The air was "unhealthy" here today, and it got to 111 degrees (supposed to be 112 tomorrow!)... The fires are up around Redding and scattered clear down between Monterey & Santa Barbara -- so, SLO could be a big smoggy/smoky too. Yucko! Some in the Placer area are expected to burn until OCTOBER!!! Seriously!

Love following your blog... Can't wait to see where you end up next!

Love,
Mommo

Have enjoyed your trip. Were you in Boston on the 4th for fireworks and Boston Pops? Someday I'm going to do that. I am hoping you have alloted a few days to Chicago and its architecture. Fantastic opportunity to see the works of all the great ones. It's warm in Fresno -- so what else is new. E&B leave for Belize on Saturday. We will be babysitting Mr. Jones their 4 month Newfoundland/Catahula mix.
I would suggest several zoos along the way; but know your interests are elsewhere. Is Lincoln, Nebraska, in your itinerary? If so, stop by the Natural History Museum at University of Nebraska. Mind boggling!
Love to both, Grandma
