The Trail Less Traveled... in SLO!
We found a little trail map in our mailbox today, so we picked out a spot we've never hit up before and found what could be San Luis Obispo's best kept hike spot secret! ;)
Bowden Ranch Open Space is on the East side of town across the street from French Hospital at the end of Lizzie Street. The hike begins by hopping over the creek through a fenced pathway through pretty and prickly cactus. The first view out showed us that the top of this hike was going to show us more than the view of Madonna Mountain and Bishop's Peak that we saw just a few minutes into the hike...
Donna likes to close her eyes in photos... maybe she's thinking about the red panda... (more about the red panda later... pet skunks might have to come after the pet red panda)
Corey's ears were getting a bit chilly with the wind, so he wrapped his jacket around his head... almost like a modern day turban... ;) Doesn't he look happy??!! (he really is)
It was a lot steeper than we were expecting (the challenge is good), and due to the fact that Corey is getting over being sick, we decided to not go the entire trail... but we are looking forward to coming up here again before we leave the state.
This is going on our "must do before we leave SLO list." Do any of you fellow bloggers have other spots on the Central Coast that are "hidden treasures" that we should find out about before we leave? Help us out!

you guys have to go to big falls and little falls in lopez canyon....you can even jump off the falls...but i wont. no way. no how.
Corey has certainly been to Big Falls... and has jumped off the top... although that was a long time ago!
One time out there, after driving through the rivers, his truck got bogged down and wouldn't come back to life... had to leave it there on the side of the "road" and head up to the falls without it. Coming back from the falls, Corey's truck had been broken into and some people's random little things... laid our hands on the truck and prayed... still wouldn't start... Decided we had to come back with something to tow it or fix it. Corey's pastor at the time said, "you can't leave it out there! we need to get it out of there before dark! bad dudes will do things to it!". So he called around and borrowed a truck big enough, and brought some tools... When Corey and pastor arrived, the truck was still there, no more damage had been done to it, and better still, were able to somehow get the truck started again!!
This reminds me of a story my dad told me once... He was driving out there through the creeks in his old VW bug (this was probably late 60's to early 70's I guess). He came upon a JEEP stuck in the water - threw him a rope and PULLED IT OUT WITH HIS VW BUG!! I'm sure that guy was not too happy that his Jeep had to be rescued by a VW bug! ;)
