Day 2
We made it to Oklahoma City safe and sound...though slightly delirious from the long travels. Ready to greet us bright and early was our good friend Joel Limpic, standing in front of his home. His home is located in the historical housing area of the city...and it is beautiful! Large trees towering over large homes and extended streets and sidewalks. It reminded us of the two streets in SLO that everyone loves (but no one could afford!) We loved walking the streets later in the afternoon and imagining what it was like in 1906 when many of the homes were first built.

Joel had to head out mid-morning to Colorado but was an awesome host in a condensed amount of time. (and willingly opened up his home for us to crash!) We went to his favorite coffee digs, Coffee Slingers, and enjoyed the good stuff.

We then received a tour of the Oklahoma City Memorial. It was beautifully done. To think that was back in 1995...seems a lot more recent.

Our stomachs were talking to us at this point so Joel took us to have some Guatemalan breakfast. (Never heard of Guatemalan food? Neither had we!) We were joined by Joel's roommate, Joshon, and past SLO residents, Emery and her adorable (and talkative!) son, Ezra. It was great to eat and hang out with friends after our long drive.
Exhausted and now full-bellied, we crashed for 5 hours and awoke ready to explore and eat again! Chris and Emery had recommended going to the downtown location called Brick Town (yup, the buildings in that area are brick—go figure). We did just that! It was such a fun area.

Donna had to try some good ol' chicken fried steak for dinner. Yum!

We heard rumor that SLO was over 110 degrees today! Wow! It is great that we escaped before we melted there. (and we thought we would have harsh heat out here...just a little bit humid and in the 80s) We have really enjoyed the area here in Oklahoma City...but we have been here for an entire 14 hours. Time for some well-needed sleep and then we are off again! Tulsa here we come...

It was 113 in SLO and your house temp has not dropped below 87 in 3 days, even at night!! I'm literally melting away, but enjoying the temperpedic mattress! Thanks for letting me stay at your place! You two are lucky that you got away from the heat, it's supposed to be 105 here today...melt
We love experiencing going across the US with the two of u! Keep blogging! Also...how are the cats feeling in all that heat? Maybe they need a little H2O?
Please continue 2 b careful as u drive along!
donna...did you finish the chicken fried-artery clogger? (i mean steak...) haha. you totally look like you are enjoying it!
Looks like you are having fun! Just wanted to point out that the line on the map shows your detour to the Grand Canyon on the border of AZ & NM.
Erika— yes i did finish that thing! (but it wasn't until the next morning that I took the last bites) I balanced that out with some salads for the next meals! : )
Matt— I was wondering if anyone would notice! I forgot that when I dragged out the line that it would move that initial detour...I will fix that! It was great visiting with you guys and seeing your burrito-sized baby! : )
Hi Pop! Thanks for reading the posts, glad you are enjoying them. We will keep them up! It has been fun and is a nice way for us to journal our journey and not forget the fun things along the way. We are definitely being careful. Our trips on the east coast are only in spurts of 3 hours or so (nothing like what we did the first couple of days thankfully!) Love you!
Kayla— Wow, the heat was nice to escape for us! (but sorry you have to experience it!)
Glad you like the bed...we miss it. Other beds just aren't the same. You and matt should register for one!
